Outside of B.C.?
To cancel your ICBC insurance, you must write a letter to:
ICBC - Cancellations
Room 205
151 West Esplanade
North Vancouver B.C. V7M 3H9
State in the letter that you want to cancel your insurance policy.
Include:
- Your plate/policy number
- The signatures of all registered owners
- Your new address and new phone number
Also enclose:
- Either your B.C. licence plates, or a receipt showing that they have been handed in to a licensing authority outside B.C. Package your plates well for the mail.
- Your current ICBC insurance policy.
IMPORTANT: Only include the top portion of the document — your Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence. Be sure to keep the bottom portion, your Vehicle Registration, as you will be need this to register your vehicle in your new location.
- If you have already registered your vehicle outside of B.C, include a photocopy of your new registration, showing the date it was effective. ICBC will calculate your refund based on that date, not the date of your letter.
Licence plates sent to ICBC will not be accepted if sent “Cash on Delivery.”
Leased vehicles
If your vehicle is leased, a representative from the leasing company will have to visit an Autoplan broker's office to have the ICBC insurance policy cancelled. The representative will also have to hand in the plates. If the representative does not have the plates when canceling the insurance, in some cases, the broker may have to contact ICBC to make sure that the plates have been returned to ICBC.
