Multiple Crash Premium

The Multiple Crash Premium (MCP) was introduced on September 1, 2000.

What is MCP?

The MCP is a way of penalizing drivers who cause lots of crashes. If you are found 50% or more at fault for 3 crashes within a 3-year period, you will have to pay an MCP of $1,000. For each additional at-fault crash within the 3 years, there is another fee of $500.

The MCP is attached to your driver's licence, but you will not be able to renew your Autoplan insurance or your driver's licence if you haven't paid it.

Can you reduce the Multiple Crash Premium?

If you voluntarily give up your Driver's Licence through a driver licensing office for one year, you will not have to pay the MCP. If you get your licence re-issued before the year is over, you'll have to pay a pro-rated MCP. For example, if you surrendered your driver's licence for 6 months, you would only have to pay half of the MCP, or $500. Interest will be applied to any outstanding amounts.
