What does UMP not cover?
There are situations in which Autoplan will not pay
for bodily injury or death under Underinsured Motorist Protection. Some of
them are:
- You are riding in an unlicensed vehicle, unless
you have reasonable grounds to believe the vehicle is licensed.
- You are operating a vehicle without the owner's
permission and without reasonable grounds to believe that you have the owner's
permission.
- You are riding in a vehicle exempt from Autoplan
insurance (for example, vehicles owned, leased or operated by the Government
of Canada).
- The crash happens in a province or state where
the law does not allow you to sue and recover damages for injury or death
caused by a motor vehicle crash.
- You or someone representing you, without ICBC's
written agreement, settle with or take legal action against a person or
organization that may be liable to you for injury or death.
Underinsured Motorist Protection is not included under
the Basic Autoplan coverage for vehicles used as buses, limousines or taxis.
However, if you're riding in a bus, limo or taxi,
you still have Underinsured Motorist Protection as long as you:
- own and insure a B.C. vehicle of your own
- hold a valid B.C. driver's licence, or
- are a member of the household [click
for definition] of someone who owns and insures a B.C. vehicle
or who holds a valid B.C. driver's licence.
