RoadStar Package Rental Vehicle Coverage
The RoadStar Package's Rental Vehicle Coverage protects you when you are driving a rental vehicle or courtesy car. [click for definition] It includes:
- coverage for damage to a rental vehicle or courtesy car (Collision, $300 deductible; Comprehensive, $300 deductible)
- Third Party Liability up to $1,000,000 (for damage or injury you cause to others while you're driving a rental or courtesy car)
- Accident Benefits (see Accident Benefits under Basic Autoplan)
- Underinsured Motorist Protection (see Underinsured Motorist Protection under Basic Autoplan)
- Loss of Use coverage of up to $25 per day, to a total limit of $250. This lets you rent another car if the rental vehicle or courtesy car can't be driven after a crash. The substitute vehicle will be limited to one that is of a make and model specified by ICBC and similar in size to what you own.

RoadStar Rental Vehicle Coverage is similar to the Rental Vehicle Coverage you can buy as optional Autoplan insurance. Buying it as part of the RoadStar package is more economical if you are eligible to do so. It is also available as part of the more comprehensive Roadside Plus package, with increased Third Party Liability coverage.
All you need
Since your RoadStar Rental Vehicle Coverage provides Collision, Comprehensive and Loss of Use insurance for the rented vehicle, you don't need to buy this coverage from a rental company. The RoadStar Package is usually quite a bit cheaper than the price the rental company would charge you for the same coverage.
Restrictions
For this coverage to apply, you must be renting a vehicle for a period of 30 days or less under a written agreement from an established rental agency, or using a courtesy car.
The Autoplan Rental Vehicle Policy will cover any private passenger vehicle, motorcycle, trailer or light commercial vehicle used for pleasure or business purposes, as long as its daily rental rate [definition] does not exceed $125 Cdn or $100 US. It also covers motor homes and wheelchair-accessible vehicles but their rental rate is allowed to exceed the limit set for other vehicles.
The policy will not cover:

vehicles used for carrying or delivering goods for compensation
- a bus with a seating capacity of 16 or more used for carrying passengers
- a vehicle used to carry passengers for compensation or hire
- a vehicle rented for the exclusive use of non-B.C. residents
- snowmobiles, snow vehicles, golf carts, all-terrain vehicles, industrial machines and road building machines
- borrowed vehicles
- commercial motor vehicles over 5,000 kg GVW
Only good in Canada and the U.S.
Like other Autoplan policies, the RoadStar Rental Vehicle Policy applies throughout Canada and the United States, but not in Mexico or any other country.
