Richard (Rick) Thorpe

Rick Thorpe

Rick serves on the boards of the Canadian Snowbird Association, Canada Revenue Agency, and Summerland Charity Shops Society (Penny Lane), and he is the chair of the Fiscal Review Board with the City of Penticton.

Rick served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2009  and during his time as an MLA, he served on the Treasury Board. In addition, he was appointed the Minister of Small Business and Revenue; the Minister Responsible for Regulatory Reform; the Minister of Provincial Revenue; and the Minister of Competition, Science and Enterprise.

Before his election to the Legislative Assembly, Rick worked in the Canadian brewing industry for 22 years in a variety of senior management positions in Canada and internationally. He was then involved in repositioning the BC grape and wine industry and was a partner in an Okanagan winery.

Active in the community, he has previously served as the director and treasurer of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon, a member of the Rotary in Summerland, and the president of the Okanagan Wine Festival. In 2007, Rick was awarded the Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada, the highest honour given to a certified management accountant.
