Coverage for luxury vehicles
High-value vehicles will be charged higher Basic Autoplan insurance premiums, as of
January 8, 2017. Find out how to properly insure your luxury vehicles in B.C.
What is a high-value vehicle?
A high-value vehicle is a B.C. registered, private passenger luxury vehicle with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of:
- over $150,000, with a model year that falls within seven years of the current year or
- over $400,000, with a model year that falls within 14 years of the current year.
It does not include commercial vehicles, motorcycles, trailers or recreational vehicles (RVs).
Please refer to the list of luxury vehicles to find out whether:
You own or lease a high-value vehicle. The premium charged for your Basic Autoplan
insurance will double when you take out a new policy or renew an
existing policy. This applies to policies effective January 8, 2017 or later.
Customized special risk own-damage coverage applies to your luxury vehicle.
If you own a luxury vehicle and wish to purchase Autoplan collision, comprehensive, or specified perils coverage you may also need to apply for customized special risk own damage coverage.
Applying for customized own damage coverage
If customized special risk own damage coverage applies to your luxury vehicle, remember to submit your application at least three weeks before you renew or buy your Autoplan insurance policy. Otherwise you could find yourself without own damage
coverage until the application is processed.
