So you've decided to buy a used vehicle. We've put together a handy list of steps of steps to follow to ensure you get the vehicle that's right for you.

1) Brainstorm. Think of all the vehicles you're interested in and write them down. Now is the time to consider what you'll be using the vehicle for, commuting, work, family.

2) Research. Use the Internet; ask friends, read consumer reports. Make notes on all the vehicles you're interested in, including; safety features, price, resale values, fuel consumption.

3) Cost. What exactly can you afford? Refer to your notes and see how much each vehicle you like is going to cost, chances are you'll start narrowing down your choices here.

4) Financing. Talk to your bank, or other financial institution. Determine what kind of financing will be available to you.

6) Visit and test. If you've decided to go through a car dealer, you can refer to your shortlist of vehicles and find a dealer that suits you. Find the nearest dealerships in your area by checking the Yellow Pages or the Motor Dealer Standards Association of BC. Now comes the fun part...the test drives. Take each vehicle for a thorough test drive and take many notes so you can refer back.

7) Locate and test. If you've decided to go through a private seller, look in your local paper, the Buy and Sell or on the internet for vehicles you are interested in. Contact the sellers and begin setting up appointments. Be sure to take each car for a test drive and refer to the inspection information this site provides.

8) Negotiate. You've done you're research, test drives, and inspection and you're ready to buy. You have the power of knowledge to your advantage. Make sure you get the features and (if possible) extended warranty you want included in the final price.
