Treatment and travel costs

Injury treatments covered by your ICBC insurance

You don't need to worry about payments for any treatments that qualify under ICBC's Accident Benefits coverage. ICBC will usually cover these costs on an ongoing basis, as you receive services. Just remember that it's important for you to keep receipts for all expenses that you incur as part of your treatment or rehabilitation.

Also, at the time of your final settlement with ICBC, you may receive Accident Benefit payments to cover the cost of future health care or rehabilitation expenses.

For more information, please speak to your adjuster.

IMPORTANT: You only have 90 days after your crash to return your Accident Benefits application form to ICBC or you may lose your right to claim for those benefits.

NOTE: If you receive treatment classified by ICBC as an "alternative therapy" the costs of this treatment will not be covered by ICBC Accident Benefits. Ask your adjuster to explain available treatments that are covered under ICBC Accident Benefits.

Injury treatments covered by another motorist's insurance

If another motorist is found at least partly liable [click for definition] for your crash, you may be entitled to receive compensatory damages, including money to help pay for medical and rehabilitation costs. We usually do not pay these costs until you settle your claim, but if this causes you hardship, tell your adjuster.

Advance payments for financial hardship

If your injury is clearly causing you financial hardship — but your case has still not been settled — your adjuster may consider making you advance payments for your net wage loss [click for definition] and other out-of-pocket expenses. Advance payments can only be made after evidence of your disability is accepted and a dollar value is determined for the advance payments.

NOTE: Advance payments for net wage loss are only available if you are eligible to receive compensatory damages from a motorist found at least partly liable for the crash in which you were injured.

If you require financial help, ask your adjuster for more details.

Travel costs

ICBC does not provide coverage for most routine travel expenses, such as mileage or parking. However, you can request reimbursement for the following costs:

NOTE: The above is only a partial list. Payment of travel expenses will be based on each individual's needs.
