Making an injury claim

What's needed for an injury claim?

Most injury claims must be supported by medical documentation before an adjuster can make any payments. If you've been more seriously injured, and are obviously totally disabled, it is usually not necessary for your adjuster to obtain a medical report before making payments. In less serious cases, though, expect slight delays while your adjuster works with your health care professionals to process their reports on your injury.

Your responsibility for treatment

When you receive Accident Benefits from ICBC for treatment or rehabilitation, you are responsible for properly following the terms of your treatment as prescribed by your medical practitioner. If you don't do so, ICBC may end your benefits.

Make sure you stay on track with your treatment by following this simple check list:

Independent medical examinations

If you are making a claim for compensatory damages the other motorist, or motorists, involved must defend themselves against your claim. As defendants, other motorists have a right to ask that you submit to an examination by an independent medical practitioner and that a written report of the results of the examination be made available.

As part of your Accident Benefits claim you may also be required to attend a medical examination. Failure to attend may cause ICBC to cancel your further entitlement to Accident Benefits.

Your adjuster can provide any further information you need about this.
