Meeting your adjuster

What if I'm too injured to go to a claim centre?

If you are unable to visit a claim centre, an adjuster will be pleased to arrange to meet you at a time and location that's convenient for you.

Was your child injured?

If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been injured in a crash, be aware that injury settlements for persons below the age of 19 must be reviewed by the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of British Columbia (OPGT). Also, any settlements for your child will not be paid directly to you but will be held in trust until your child turns 19. In some cases, some or all of the funds may be advanced before that date to assist your child.

Further information about the role of the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of British Columbia can be found at their website or by calling them at 604-660-4444.

The claim centre

At an ICBC claim centre, you will meet friendly, helpful people who have been trained to ensure you are treated well and that your needs are met. Staff will direct you to your personal adjuster and estimator. There are claim centres all over British Columbia.

Your adjuster

Your adjuster will be your contact person at ICBC. He or she will meet you at your first appointment and obtain details about the accident and your injuries.

To help with your claim, your adjuster will ask for details about the accident to make sure the facts are clear and that he or she understands your situation and point of view. Your adjuster will discuss with you the benefits to which you may be entitled, outline the next steps and work with you as you progress toward full recovery.

Your adjuster will obtain medical information from your doctor as required, and will keep in regular contact with you throughout the process. He or she will evaluate and assess all of the information about your case.

When you are ready to settle your claim, your adjuster will meet with you to agree on a fair value.
