Sound and Communication equipment

Am I covered?

If you purchased ICBC Autoplan Comprehensive or Specified Perils insurance you are covered by ICBC.

If you DID purchase either one of these coverages from ICBC, you are covered for sound and communication equipment that is not manufacturer's equipment [click for definition] up to a maximum of $1,000 - for any one or more items. The equipment must be permanently attached [click for definition] to a permanently attached part of the vehicle or attached with a shuttle mount. [click for definition]

The $1,000 limit includes an AM/FM or S/W radio, tape player (plus only ONE tape), speakers, amplifier, equalizer, compact disc player (plus only ONE disc), a booster, two-way radio, cellular telephone.

Proof of theft

To make a claim, you must produce proof of the existence and value of non-manufacturer's equipment. Receipts should be kept together with a note of the year, make, model and serial number for the equipment. Photos may also be useful.

PLEASE NOTE: We only pay claims for theft of shuttle-mounted stereo equipment if there is evidence of damage to the vehicle or a building (such as a garage) caused by forcible entry.

What if my stereo is worth more than $1,000?

Under Autoplan Comprehensive and Specified Perils insurance you are only covered up to a maximum of $1,000 - for permanently attached, non-manufacturer's sound and communications equipment.

ICBC sells a policy that can extend the amount of coverage for sound and communication equipment: the Excess Special Equipment Endorsement. You may wish to consider this option when you renew your insurance. Speak to your Autoplan broker.
