How to make a glass claim

Go directly to an ICBC Glass Express shop

Do you need to make a glass claim and get your windshield or other glass replaced? If you have Comprehensive coverage, go directly to an ICBC Glass Express shop. Note: some claims may not qualify for Glass Express.

Glass Express shops have been approved by ICBC to process glass claims. You don't need to phone ICBC or go to a claim centre first.

Am I covered for glass or windshield damage?

ICBC optional Comprehensive insurance includes coverage for damage caused by:

Does my claim qualify for Glass Express?

Glass Express shops handle most, but not all windshield and glass claims. Please check the exceptions listed below. If any applies to you, follow the instructions marked with a  .

If: Do one of the following
Phone ICBC Dial-A-Claim Go to an ICBC claim centre
There's no Glass Express shop in your area
You have a Temporary Operation Permit
You have a Vehicle in Storage policy
There is damage to:
  • Headlights
  • Taillights
  • Mirrors
  • Sunroof or T-bar
  • More than one piece of glass
Your vehicle is more than 20 years old*
For all other glass claims, please go directly to a Glass Express shop.

* In rare cases replacing the glass in an older vehicle is more costly than the vehicle is worth. ICBC usually declares such vehicles a write-off. The glass shop will consult with ICBC in all cases and ICBC will determine if the repairs can proceed. As long as your vehicle doesn't have to be written off, a Glass Express shop will usually replace the glass.

Windshield repairs

In some instances, a suitable alternative to windshield replacement is a glass repair. The cost of a windshield repair is not covered by your insurance. In most cases, however, the cost of a windshield repair is considerably less than your deductible. Your ICBC Glass Express facility can discuss with you the benefits and cost of glass repair.
