T. Michael Porter
T. Michael Porter's 38 years of experience in the insurance business began in 1968 as an underwriter trainee with the Continental Insurance Company. From there, Michael continued to be an underwriter with the Canadian Indemnity Company as a Property, Casualty, and Liability Underwriter.
For the past 10 years, Michael was the President, CEO and a Board Member with the CUMIS Group Limited, where he oversaw all operations for five different insurance and financial services companies. The CUMIS Group included life insurance companies, financial services and wealth management distribution throughout Canada, with over $1 billion dollars in assets and $520 million in revenue.
Michael is a former ICBC employee. He was a Manager in the General Insurance Division from 1973 to 1979, and a Claims Manager from 1980 to 1985. From 1985 to 1997, Michael was the Vice President, then the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with Canadian Northern Shield Insurance Company, where he was responsible for company operations.
Michael has been a Board Member for seven different companies, mainly focusing in the financial sector. He has over 10 years of board of directors experience, which included being Board Chair with the Insurance Institute of Canada. Michael currently chairs the Investor Relations committee for The Ethical Funds Company.
