UNIX Systems Administrator — Ad # 6460
Employment Type: Full-time Permanent
Location: North Vancouver, BC
Enterprise Computing Technical Support is the distributed server infrastructure team at ICBC who is responsible for an enterprise-level UNIX environment. The server infrastructure supports mission critical applications such as SAP, Oracle, the Data warehouse, SAS and a multitude of applications residing on SUN Solaris OS and hardware. Enterprise Computing Technical Support is looking for a UNIX Systems Administrator who can provide quality technical support and planning for the UNIX servers within a large Data Center environment.
Typical responsibilities for the position would include:
- Technical planning and execution of changes to the UNIX server environment,
- Automation through Shell scripting,
- Access and print queue administration through LDAP,
- Monitoring and performing problem resolution and root cause analysis
- Knowledge of the following technologies such as SAN (EMC) and backup (Veritas) is an asset.
- Experience in providing technical support within a multi-platform data center environment that includes MS Windows server and/or IBM Z/OS, and with understanding of enterprise level databases and applications such as Oracle and SAP is also an asset.
Requirements for this position:
- A working knowledge of a current UNIX operating system and associated UNIX administration practices.
- Must be able to develop server operating system images, apply configuration changes in terms of security updates and OS upgrades to current software implementations.
- Must also demonstrate practical UNIX administration skill such as software installation, shell scripting, access administration, print queue administration, storage allocation and OS optimization.
- Must have working knowledge of UNIX server hardware and associated peripherals.
- Must have working knowledge of directory services such as NIS or LDAP, and TCP/IP networking.
- Must have experience in providing server administration within a large, enterprise wide data center environment.
- Knowledge of the following server related software is required: server backup software, server software for SAN integration and server software for database integration.
- Candidate must demonstrate ability to plan, perform and execute changes on UNIX and demonstrate ability to provide accurate troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- SUN F15K technical support experience is a definite asset.
