All computer monitors display information at higher or lower levels of detail, or "monitor resolution." These levels can vary from as little as 640 X 480, measured in monitor pixels, to as high as 1600 X 1200 pixels.
As well, monitors can be set to display a varying number of screen colours. This may vary on individual monitors according to your system's capabilities. Older machines are sometimes limited to displaying only 256 colours — or less.
Today, most monitors are factory-set to either 1026 X 768 or 800 X 600 pixels. They are also capable of displaying millions of colours. All the images available for download on this site are available in either of these resolutions and are best displayed with over 16 million colours.
