brokers in B.C. so chances are there's one in your neighbourhood.
They are trained to understand all of ICBC's Autoplan insurance
products, so they can help you choose the coverage that you need.
There are some special requirements for anyone new
to B.C.
You may pay for your Autoplan insurance by cheque,
cash, debit card, American Express, Visa or MasterCard. See Monthly
payments for information on monthly payment plans.
AirCare
In some parts of British Columbia, you won't
be able to buy auto insurance until your vehicle has passed AirCare.
This test measures the emissions your car puts out in its exhaust.
If your vehicle is new to British Columbia,
it won't need to pass AirCare the first time you register it. It
will need to pass the AirCare test before your first renewal.
What you need
You can buy Autoplan insurance from any
of B.C.'s Autoplan brokers. When you go to buy your Autoplan, be
sure to take:
- Your driver's licence
- Your vehicle registration
- Your Autoplan renewal notice (if you
are renewing)
- Your AirCare certificate (if required)
You will also have to decide what optional
coverage you want. Do
I need more coverage? explains what optional coverage is available,
and why you might want to buy it.
There are some special requirements if you
are bringing
a vehicle to British Columbia.

The paperwork
When you license and insure your vehicle, your broker will give you a document called the Owner's Certificate of Insurance [click
for definition] and Vehicle Licence. Make sure you sign it, and carry it in your vehicle at all times.
