Extended Third Party Liability
If you are found at fault (that is, legally liable)
for a crash where someone else is hurt or their property is damaged,
your Third Party Liability [click
for definition] coverage pays their claims
or damages against you.
Your Basic Autoplan gives you $200,000 in
Third Party Liability coverage.
However, courts often award judgments for
much more than $200,000. Many motorists increase their Third Party Liability coverage, so they are better protected in case of
serious injury to others.
You can choose to increase your coverage
to $300,000, to $5 million, or anywhere in between.
Most Commercial
vehicles must be insured for at least $1 million Third Party Liability, and $2 million if they carry dangerous goods. This
includes heavy commercial vehicles (over 5,000 GWV), buses, taxis,
limousines and commercial trailers.
