24-hour roadside prohibition | ADP | Other prohibitions

The Superintendent of Motor Vehicles issues driving prohibitions in British Columbia. ICBC administers prohibitions on the Superintendent's behalf.

You may be prohibited from driving:

for 24 hours because of an alcohol- or drug-related traffic or driving incident. This is a 24-hour roadside prohibition.
for 90 days because of an alcohol-related incident. This is called an Administrative Driving Prohibition (ADP).
for a specified length of time due to a bad driving record.
for other reasons as established by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

Additionally, in some cases, automatic driving prohibitions are issued on conviction of certain offences. Prohibitions may also be issued by the courts.
