Can I continue to display 2010 Winter Games plates past the 2010 Games?
Yes. 2010 Winter Games licence plates are an official provincial licence plate. Customers can, and are encouraged, to retain them.
How long do I have to pay renewal fees for 2010 Winter Games plates?
Renewals fees will continue until December 31, 2012 , the date when ICBC’s licensing agreement with VANOC expires. These fees directly support the 2010 Games.
What happens if my 2010 Winter Games licence plates are lost, stolen or damaged?
Lost, stolen or damaged 2010 Winter Games licence plates must be replaced by new 2010 Winter Games plates or standard issue plates at a cost of $18. After December 31, 2010, there will be no more 2010 plates available for sale or replacement, and customers will be required to switch to standard issue plates.
Are 2010 Winter Games plates available for purchase as a souvenir?
No. There is discussion of the potential sale of a souvenir plate however a decision has not been made.
Can I keep my 2010 Winter Games plates as a souvenir?
If a customer cancels their 2010 Winter Games plates after December 31, 2010 , they will be permitted to keep the front licence plate as a souvenir in recognition of their support of the Games. However, the back licence plate with the insurance decal must be returned.
If a customer cancels a 2010 Winter Games motorcycle or trailer licence plate after December 31, 2010 , they will be required to return the plate in order for it to be invalidated. Once that is done, the customer will be permitted to keep the plate as a souvenir.
Customers who choose to cancel, or switch their 2010 Winter Games plate to another plate type, before December 31, 2010 are required to return both plates. An $18 standard re-plating fee will apply for new plates.
Can I keep my 2010 Winter Games plates as a souvenir if I lease my vehicle?
Normally, a customer who leases their vehicle (the lessee) is not able to keep their plates after a lease buy-out because licence plates may not be transferred to a new owner.
For 2010 Winter Games plates only, customers who buy-out their leases after December 31, 2010 will be allowed to keep the front plate as a souvenir in recognition of their support of the Games. However, due to legal and system restrictions, the lessee must have new plates issued if they intend to reinsure the vehicle in their name.
Can I buy 2010 Winter Games plates as a gift for a family member or friend?
No. There are currently no processes in place to allow the gifting of licence plates.

The mountain scene on the 2010 Winter Games plate is that of Garibaldi Park , located 13 km north of Squamish, 97 km north of Vancouver along Hwy 99 on the road to Whistler.
The chosen plate design captures the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games while showcasing one of the most scenic and breathtaking areas between Vancouver and Whistler. The image was also used in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Bid proposal.
