Installing your booster
seat
Print this checklist and take it with you when
you go to install your booster seat.
|
Seat faces forward. |
|
Place booster in the back seat
away from airbags. All children 12 and under should be properly
restrained in the back seat. In almost all crashes it is the
safest
location. |
|
Attach with the adult
seatbelt according to the manufacturer's instructions. 3-point
lap / shoulder belts are preferred and the safest. |
Buckling your child into the booster
|
Position the lap belt low over
the hips. |
|
Position the shoulder belt over the
shoulders and across the chest. Never place the seatbelt
under the child's arm or behind their back. |
|
Do not use
seatbelt adjusters that change the path of the lap or shoulder
belt. They can be unsafe. |
|
Always check the
manufacturer's instructions. |
Keep your child in the booster seat for as long
as physically necessary
|
If your vehicle is equipped with lap belts,
the only booster that can be installed is one with a shield.
In this case, the shield is placed snugly against the child
and the lap belt is attached over the shield.
To reduce the risk of ejection in a crash,
It is essential that:
-
the child has reached the minimum
booster seat weight,
-
the shield fits snugly against the
child, and
-
the lap belt fits snugly over the
shield to reduce the risk of ejection in a crash.
If there is no passenger air bag, you
may consider installing the booster in the front seat with
a lap/shoulder belt.
|
Low-back booster seat
-
raises the child so the lap/shoulder selt
belt fits properly over the child's pelvic bones and across
the chest.
-
is protective in a vehicle with a head restraint
at least level with the top of the child's ears.
High-back booster seat
-
raises the child so the lap/shoulder selt
belt fits properly over the child's pelvic bones and across
the chest.
-
helps protect the child's head and neck
during a rear-end crash.
