Installing your convertible seat — forward facing

Print this checklist and take it with you when you go to install your convertible seat in the forward-facing position.

If you do not already have a tether anchor bolt, have one installed (see the vehicle owner's manual or call your vehicle dealer for instructions and information on tether bolt installation).
 Adjust seat to upright position
 Seat faces forward.
Place convertible child seat in back seat. All children 12 and under should be properly restrained in the back seat. It is usually the safest location in the majority of crashes.
Ensure harness straps pass through the correct slots in the back of the child seat. (Always check the manufacturer's instructions to find out which slots are reinforced and can be used forward facing. You may only be able to use the top slots in some seats when they are forward facing.)
Secure the tether strap to the tether anchorage hardware in your vehicle and tighten (check vehicle owner's manual for installation information).
Attach with the adult seatbelt and if necessary, use a locking clip.
Make sure the child seat does not move more than one inch away from the back of the vehicle seat.
Route the seatbelt as per the manufacturer's instructions and ensure the seatbelt is secured snugly.

Harnessing your child in the seat

Place your child in the seat and fasten the harness snugly. Only one finger should fit between the harness and the child's collar bone. (Avoid dressing your child in heavy clothing. Bulky clothing will make it difficult to ensure snug harnessing. In cold weather, put blankets over your child - after he's been fastened in the seat.)
Raise the chest clip to the level of your child's armpits.
On each trip, check harness tension and adjust chest clip.
Always check the manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual.
