MISSION POSSIBLE @ Work®: program details

Topics covered in the group sessions

Driver Fatigue

Driving while tired can be as serious as driving under the influence of alcohol. Employees learn about the scope and severity of this problem, as well as the effects and consequences of fatigue on driving. Participants are also provided with strategies to deal with this common and often ignored problem.

Speed and Speeding

Dangerous driving behaviour such as speed is a common cause of driving aggravation on our roads and often leads to motor vehicle crashes. Employees learn about the dangers and different types of speeding and the effect of speed on driving ability and on the severity of crashes. Participants learn also about critical techniques to deal with speeding (both in themselves and in other drivers).

Managing Emotions - Aggressive Driving

Participants learn to identify symptoms of, and circumstances that lead to emotional driving in oneself and others. Employees learn also to recognize different emotional states in order to avoid driving while under the influence of emotional extremes.

Inattention and Distraction

Many slip-ups in driving result from lapses in attention or by a variety of distractions. Employees learn about the causes and effects of inattention and distraction while driving. Participants learn also to identify driver distractions, signs of inattention, and become better equipped to avoid the consequences of this behaviour.

Winter Driving

Winter driving takes its toll on vehicle systems and tests our driving skills. Employees learn about the hazards of driving during the winter months. Participants are also armed with knowledge and safe driving techniques, and become better prepared to deal with winter related vehicle preparation and driving issues.

Animal Hazards

Many roadways in BC are prone to wildlife crashes, because of the large tracts of wilderness in our province. Knowing how to deal with animal hazards is particularly important for employees working in rural areas. Employees learn about the hazards animals pose, animal habits and preventable actions drivers can take to minimize animal related crashes.
