Intersections can be dangerous places.
Every day on average, about 230 crashes occurred at an intersection in B.C.
That’s why drivers always need to use caution when approaching intersections. We need to set an example—our smart decisions can make a difference for others.
Running red lights puts everyone at risk. That's why the police, the provincial government and ICBC introduced the red light camera program (PDF).
The program places intersection safety cameras (commonly known as 'red light' cameras) at 140 of the highest risk intersections across the province to deter drivers from running red lights. The goal of the program is to prevent crashes, injuries and fatalities. Ticket revenue is distributed among all municipalities across B.C. to enhance their policing and community-based public safety programs.
