ACTIVITY

Mocktail Competition

Explanation of Activity:

The mocktail competition can be done in many ways. The most basic method is to have specific people representing groups in you school or just have the teachers compete. Each contestant would choose a specific drink they would make during the competition and their drink would be rated by the spectators. The tally at the end would indicate who had the best liked drink . You could use this drink as the next dance's special drink. Maybe have a small token prize for the winner or name the drink after them.

Why we are doing this activity:

It shows how tasty non-alcoholic drinks can be

How much preparation time:

This project doesn't need much preparation time. Arranging for the contestants, having them choose their drinks and then shopping for the needed ingredients. Posters and advance publicity will be very helpful. You can also order extra mocktail recipes for spectators, penalty information, CounterAttack buttons and balloons from ICBC.

What do we need to do to organize this project:

PRINCIPAL Support: If we need principal support, meet with the principal and discuss why we want to do this and how we plan to accomplish it. Be really clear on how we want to do this before you meet. The more you understand it and can explain it, the more chance you have of getting support from the principal.

Who will meet with the principal to present the plan and ask for permission?

Who: By when:

What will you use as a draw prize? Who will get the prize?

Who: By when:

How are we going to promote this event? Will we invite specific key people to participate or open it up to entries?

Make up signs for each entry's drinks and have them on an entry ballot that the spectators can submit for their most liked drink. You might also want to have copies of each recipe for people to take away. You might also need an entry box for the ballots.

Who will take care of this?

Who: By when:

Who will tabulate the ballots so they can be announced just as the event is ending?

Who: By when:

Shopping list: Have each contestant submit a shopping list for you to purchase the supplies, order lots of ice, paper towels, and small Dixie cups (very small) for sampling. Have a lot of garbage containers available and a ballot entry box.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT: We might be able to get the local business to donate the draw prize and/or the supplies for the mocktails.

PRESS COVERAGE: The local press might want to cover the story. If yes, who will make the arrangements:

EVALUATION: Arrange to do an evaluation of the project. Select a few of the participants and interview them a month after the event to see if they remember some of the information. Did they feel the project was helpful and what would they recommend changing or repeating.
