Fleets

For the most part, fleet policies will continue to be rated the same as they are currently. Fleet operators will not be required to list the drivers that use their fleet vehicles, and at-fault crashes will continue to be factored into the policy which looks at the loss experience of the fleet. In addition, there are no changes to the claim repayment rules for fleet customers.

Do the recent changes to insurance impact my Fleetplan policy?

Fleet drivers involved in an at-fault crash will not have their non-fleet insurance premiums impacted.

What are the changes to fleets?

Here are the changes that apply to fleets:

  • Fleet policies will be impacted by updates to both rate class (how the vehicle is used) and territory (where the vehicle is used).
  • Two new discounts will be available for vehicles in a fleet:
    • 10% discount for original manufacturer-installed autonomous emergency braking technology; and
    • 10% discount for vehicles driven less than 5,000 km in a year (annual policies only)
  • Moving forward, drivers involved in an at-fault crash in a fleet vehicle will not have their personal policies impacted.

Factsheet and conversation guide for fleets

For everything you need to know about the changes and what they mean for fleets and their drivers or customers, see the Fleet factsheet and customer conversation guide.

How do these changes impact employers and employees?

Moving forward, at-fault crashes in a fleet vehicle will not affect drivers' personal or other policies where they are listed as a driver.

Fleet customers asked us and government to reconsider the impacts on their fleet drivers, so we're delaying those impacts indefinitely. The new model is a significant shift for British Columbians and we are committed to monitoring and making adjustments if needed to help ensure we're striking the right balance of driver accountability and fairness.
