Electric kick scooters (e-scooters)
Electric kick scooters may only be operated on designated roads in participating communities of B.C.'s electric kick scooter pilot project.

Safety requirements
Rider must be at least 16 years old and ride no more than 25 km/h
Rider must wear a bicycle helmet
No driver's licence or insurance required
Where can I ride?
Electic kick scooters are only permitted to operate on designated roads in communities participating in the Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Program
You may be fined up to $109 for riding an e-scooter outside of participating areas

Keep in mind that you will be riding in shared spaces - predictable, respectful behaviour helps keep everyone safe
How to ride
Ride alone - no passengers or towing
Ride single file, as far right as practicable
Use hand signals or turn signals when turning
Make “hook” left turns, or dismount and walk through the intersection if it’s safer
Stay alert
Watch for motor vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, micromobility users and opening car doors
Follow posted speed limits and reduce your speed in busy or high-traffic areas
Yield to pedestrians at all times, especially in crowded spaces
Do not ride on sidewalks unless local bylaws allow it—dismount and walk your bike when required
Use your bell or horn when passing
Never ride distracted or impaired
No alcohol or drugs
No cellphone or mobile-device use
Pre-ride checklist
A helmet (required by law)
Weather-appropriate clothing (can attach reflectors for better visibility)
Front and rear lights
A bell or horn (for alerting others)
Battery is charged and securely attached
Brakes are working properly
Tires inflated and free of damage
