Responsibility assessment disputes
Your responsibility assessment will tell you if, and to what degree, you have been found responsible (at fault) in your crash. If you've received the notification of responsibility from your claims representative and disagree with the assessment, here’s how to dispute it.
Talk to your ICBC claims representative
If you have received your responsibility assessment and do not agree with the decision, you can contact your claims representative to discuss your concerns. This is your opportunity to point out anything that may have been overlooked and ask questions about how the assessment was made.
Connect with a claims manager
If your concerns aren’t resolved after speaking with your claims representative, you can ask to speak with their manager to continue the discussion. If after speaking with the manager, you still disagree with the decision, the claims manager will have your case reviewed by the Responsibility Review Team.
Responsibility review
The Responsibility Review Team will assess your case and issue a detailed responsibility assessment, also known as the CL722 form.
File a dispute with the Civil Resolution Tribunal
After receiving the CL722 form, you have 90 days to file a dispute with the Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT). The CRT is independent of ICBC and can help to resolve disputes without the need for legal representation.
