ICBC's ASL interpretation pilot
We're introducing a pilot project that offers free American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services at all ICBC driver licensing offices.
The pilot is in partnership with Convo Communications, a Deaf-owned company. Their Convo Access service offers on-demand ASL interpretation.
Locations offering ASL interpretation
Deaf and Hard of Hearing customers can quickly access ASL interpretation from Convo Access at all ICBC driver licensing offices.
If you need interpretation services at a Service BC Centre or a driver licensing agent (like an Autoplan broker), please contact the location directly.
How to use Convo Access
When you visit one of the above locations, you'll see Convo Access signage in the waiting area and at the front counter.
Scan the QR code with your smartphone camera and open the link to connect with an ASL interpreter on a secure video call. No apps, installation or additional setup are required.
Convo Access is offered for free and no advance booking is required. It can be used for common driver licensing services, such as:
Renewing or replacing a driver's licence or piece of ID
Changing your address
Getting a copy of your driving record
When to use an in-person interpreter instead
We recommend using an in-person interpreter if you're taking a knowledge test or dealing with a claim, legal matter or other potentially complex situations.
Interpreters are not permitted in the car during road tests.
